Sustainable development

In addition to enabling a more sustainable world, the company also focusses on sustainability on a daily basis

Our approach to sustainability

Some of the greenest lithium in the world

In addition to participating concretely in Québec’s energy transition efforts, Nemaska Lithium will produce some of the greenest lithium in the world, in part thanks to Nemaska Lithium adopting proven technologies to decrease our footprint.

Our operations are one of the lowest emitters of carbon emission per unit of output when compared to other spodumene sourced lithium operations around the world

We look to recover most of the residues produced, with three years of research already completed

Water usage continues to be a focus of the company, with the Nemaska process using significantly less than its peers

Environmental and Social Impact Assessment

The conversion facility that Nemaska Lithium plans to build and operate in Bécancour will have an annual production of 34,000 tonnes. Moreover, only projects planning to produce 40,000 tonnes or more annually are subject to provincial and federal impact assessment procedures.

Still, various environmental authorizations must be obtained from the ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques for the construction and operation of the conversion facility, and this requires a thorough analysis of all the project’s elements.

Montagne et route

In order to further analyze the various components of its project as well as foster better integration of the conversion facility into the host environment, Nemaska Lithium voluntarily undertook an environmental and social impact assessment of its project in the fall of 2021. It was done according to the provincial guidelines for the environmental impact assessment and review procedure.
