Job Description

Under the supervision of the Chief Metallurgist, the Water Management Engineer is responsible for ensuring proper water management for the entire Whabouchi mine site. This includes monitoring and optimizing the quality of concentrator process water, final effluent water, drinking water and sanitary water.

The water management engineer is responsible for :

  • In close collaboration with the metallurgy team, monitor process water quality at the concentrator and suggest improvements to optimize concentrator performance;
  • Always in collaboration with the metallurgy team, he will ensure that the production and quality targets for the concentrate produced are met;
  • Participate in process optimization projects (concentrator and other water treatment processes);
  • Participate in pre-operational preparation, start-up and operational monitoring of the concentrator as well as the effluent treatment, drinking water treatment and sanitary water treatment plants;
  • Ensure proper operation and compliance with discharge criteria at the final effluent treatment plant;
  • Ensure proper operation, maintenance of treatment capacity and compliance with discharge criteria at the sanitary wastewater treatment plant;
  • Responsible for the operation, production and quality of treated water at the drinking water treatment unit.
  • Lead studies on mine water management, including water balance development, water quality review and analysis, development of water quality estimation models, and development of water management concepts for normal and project flood conditions, and water treatment where appropriate.
  • Lead conceptual, feasibility or detailed studies for the selection of processes applicable to a given situation, such as pumping and water treatment systems;
  • Prepare design criteria, mass balances, sizing calculations, equipment specifications, equipment lists, flow diagrams, instrumentation and process diagrams and layouts, process descriptions and operating manuals;
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and departments to ensure synergy.

Required profile

  • University degree in water engineering, chemical engineering, mining engineering, metallurgical engineering or equivalent;
  • Two to five years’ experience in a similar position, preferably in the mining sector;
  • Computer skills;
  • Languages: bilingualism: French and English required;
  • Leadership, strategic vision, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Partnership and teamwork in a multicultural environment;
  • Ability to adapt, strong sense of autonomy and initiative.
