Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager Environment and Stakeholder Relations, the Environmental Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating environmental management activities at the Whabouchi mine site. The Environmental Superintendent will work closely with operational teams to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable practices.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Supervision of environmental activities:
    Supervise and coordinate the activities of the environmental team responsible for monitoring, assessing and managing the environmental aspects of the site. Ensure that all activities comply with applicable environmental regulations and permits.

  • Regulatory compliance
    Regulatory compliance: Ensure site compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations and standards. Ensure that all required environmental permits are duly obtained and maintained.

  • Environmental planning
    Environmental planning: Participate in the development and implementation of environmental management aimed at reducing the company’s impact on the environment. Develop and implement strategies for waste management, conservation of natural resources and reduction of pollutant emissions.

  • Environmental risk assessment
    Environmental risk assessment: Identify potential environmental risks associated with the company’s activities in relation to the site, and implement preventive measures to mitigate them. Carry out environmental assessments and impact studies to identify risks and propose appropriate solutions.

  • Awareness and training
    Promote a corporate culture focused on sustainability and environmental responsibility. Raise employee awareness of good environmental practices and provide regular training on current environmental regulations and policies.

  • Environmental incident management
    Environmental incident management: Coordinate response to environmental incidents, such as chemical spills or pollution problems. Establish appropriate emergency procedures and ensure that they are implemented effectively when needed. Communicate promptly and effectively with the relevant government authorities.

  • Cross-functional collaboration
    Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with other company departments to integrate environmental considerations into operational processes. Collaborate with engineering, health and safety, and project management teams to ensure a holistic approach to environmental sustainability.

Required profile

  • University degree in an environmental, biological, ecological or related field.
  • Relevant experience in environmental management, preferably in a supervisory or coordinating role.
  • In-depth knowledge of local and national environmental regulations.
  • Project management and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory, geographical, climatic and social context of northern Quebec.
